One of my doctors told me that everyone will get Covid at some point. On one hand, I agree if you live in crowded metropolitan areas such as my home state, New York but if you are out in some rural farm area – then I disagree. My husband got the two-line positive home test result first so I wasn’t really surprised when mine changed from negative to positive overnight. We found out the hard way that outdoor concerts with 40,000 people singing along with no masks are probably not a good idea. It was wise to order the free Covid test from the government. You can order yours here. My husband insisted that he just had a cold but then I thought – how do you really know? And we do have a social responsibility to not infect others by staying the f***k home! We did not leave the house for two weeks. I am grateful that I was able to get groceries delivered. In the height of the covid shutdown, I was never able to get a timeslot so there’s that.
I won’t pretend to know if being vaccinated helped us because I know people that weren’t and were able to pull through but they had been prepping their immune systems. Either way, it is good to be prepared. See my blog post on preparing for COVID-19.
There is so much fear associated with Covid so I really had to work on my stress levels. Luckily the urge to sleep would usually take over. I found it was best not to try to push through this and just let myself rest. After the two weeks, I still found myself wanting my Covid afternoon nap and I would usually give in. However, I see this is not something that would be good for my productivity in the long term. Here are some post-Covid tips:
- Rest as much as possible and also utilize a good streaming service such as Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, etc. This is a good time to find a show to binge-watch. Try not to do the late-night owl stuff but if it happens then let yourself sleep late.
- Now is a great time to improve your diet. More fruits and veggies (preferably organic)
- Water – it is always important to keep hydrated but even more so after an illness.
- Keeping the air pure – breathing can become more difficult. We were lucky in the sense that it was summer and we could open windows but there are always air purifiers.
- Ease slowly back into your old routine – especially at the gym. I was so eager to get back at it only to discover I didn’t have the same endurance levels yet. So take it easy.
I gave myself a month to rest and recover and I am still listening to my body which is key to recovering and healing. Listen to yours.
