I live for the beach. I am not sure if that is because I am a water sign, Caribbean girl or just that my skin goes from lizard dry to normal in the summer. I also have the incredible urge to jump into cool water when it’s hot. I live in a beach town. It was planned. If we lived another five minutes over we would not have access to what I consider to be some of the best beaches in Long Island. We tend to go to the one that is roughly a five minute walk or the ones that are about a 20 minute drive. But there is one beach that I pass by everyday which is approximately a five minute drive. I use the park part of it for my resting place on my walks (pictured below) but never really think too much about it. Today I said let’s go to that beach! Of course there was a big sign when we got there that there was no lifeguard on duty today so no swimming. I was about to run when fortunately I saw that everyone was ignoring that plus the no dogs allowed ever on the beach rule.

My walking resting place view.
It’s only a short stretch of sand to the beach and as soon as we set up our beach camp I immediately noticed that this is one of the best beaches that I have ever been to. Simple but yet exquisite and unlike our local beaches there were no boats in the water. So life is like that. You really don’t know how good its going to get until you take action and get out of your comfort zone. How many things are missed by not giving into the experience?

The beach!
And it can be so easy to take things for granted, especially the things that come easy or things that we already have. Or what about the things we will never have or get back?
In the late 90’s I worked in the World Trade Center. It was a contract gig and everyday I would pass Windows on the World and think that someday I would go up there. The problem was when it was finally 5pm, I wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. Trying to get a jump start on my commute home. There were a bunch of us that were bolting out at 5pm and for many it was like 10 minutes to 5 o’clock. Still I thought I would go up there eventually as it would always be there. Well we all know what happened on September 11, 2001.
Always passing by but not experiencing is not really living life. But fortunately this is an easy one to change.
