Let’s be honest, calling a day good where someone had nails hammered into them and then strung up for hours never sat right with me. Especially after enduring twelve years of Catholic school and raised by hypocritical parents. Because of all that, I went through a long time in my life with absolutely no faith and didn’t even realize the law of cause and effect. I hurt a lot of innocent people then but karma would have it’s due. The things that I did were eventually done to me thus causing the realization in me of how devastating my actions were. It made me more compassionate and I could no longer go on that way. I also needed a spiritual solution.
I did find solace in praying in the traditional Christian way but eventually I found my way through spiritual practices. As the saying goes, religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for people who have already been there. I was forced to go to church every week by my parents but what is the point of doing that if you are not living the principles? It always felt so hollow to me. Spirituality on the other hand really fills you up. When I am in a state of love or helping someone, it just feels so right. That is why enlightened people help each other.
The Course in Miracles says to focus on the resurrection not the crucifixion. I believe this is where most of us get stuck.
The song Crucify by Tori Amos really hit a nerve with me. Not only because of her honesty but because she asks why do we crucify ourselves? So get off the cross! Jesus needs the wood ( not really). Give yourself a break. We all make mistakes and we are here to learn the lessons.
